Perhaps. But that’s as it should be: as with most undertakings, and certainly with most of the creative arts, part of the task is making it look easy.
And of course unless they’re writers themselves people can’t possibly know how much work takes place before a ‘debut’ novel hits the shelves. Most writers have war stories about the years of failure and rejection before they experienced their overnight success!
