New jackets…

imageI have been remiss in not posting sooner about my new Australian paperback jackets. If you’re in Australia or New Zealand and have a habit of getting lost amidst the shelves of your local bookstore, you might already have seen them? The hope was to capture a sense of history, mystery and secrets – of texture and layers of story – of past and present – and to reflect my (apparently insatiable) love of peel-y old wallpaper, houses in need of a lick of paint and forgotten photographs of people whose lives were once vivid and urgent. And of course I also wanted them to be beautiful to look at. (And cradle. And sniff.)

I love them, and hope you do, too.

Stay tuned, US and Canadian readers – there’s a new family of paperback covers coming your way, too. Similar brief, different results, equally beautiful jackets.

Kate,I’m just longing to hear(along with everyone else it appears!)that your new book is out…+ I can look forward to losing myself in its pages once again…the only trouble is that once begun, I know that I won’t be able to put it down till I have VERY SADLY turned the last page (I try to put off starting a new book for that very reason!…agony!)
Thank you for sharing your amazing talent…+ an even bigger thank you for not falling into the …”move with the times, must spice things up” trap, which many relatively new authors fall into….I LOVE your style of writing…so very clever, how you weave your story through the decades like an intricate+beautiful tapestry.
I have never left a comment before but have all your books, from your very first “The House at Riverton” to “The Lake House” …so thought that it was time I did!
My very Best Wishes to you+your family.
    With great appreciation+thanks.

When is your new 2017 book released? I read October 19, but cannot find any information.

I’ ve read all your books and when a thick book can keep me right there I know I’ve found a good author to read. I’ve loved all our books and can’t wait to see another one come out.

Kate I love reading and I have a few favourite authors and you are now on that list. I have just finished the secret keeper. You really do have an incredible gift I was hooked and never expected the twists at the end. I always feel a little sad when I finish reading a great book as you know you are coming to the end of the book but can’t wait to find out what happens. But then I realised I still have the lake house to read happy days. So just thank you really.

Hi Kate, I’ve read all of your books and I’m hanging out for a new one! Are you writing a new novel I hope so because I’m having withdrawal symptoms waiting. You are an amazing author and every one of your books is a page turner and impossible to put down.
    Kindest regards Louise

I don’t allow myself much time to read and recently was looking for something to read that will give me some distraction form my studious world. My daughter suggested the Lake House by Kate Morton and I started reading and reading and reading ….much to the chagrin of my family that did not see much of me over that weekend. I simply love your layered approach and your beautiful way with words and bringing pictures, places and characters so vividly to life in my mind.Needless to say, 3 months along the line and I have finished all your books you have written up to date. I (unwillingly) finished the last pages of The Secret Keeper last night. I tried to stretch out the time of completion by getting up for cup of coffee or going for a bath, until I knew I could not postpone the inevitable any more ….the end has come. And as in all of your books, always with a surprise ending. Thanks Kate, your multi-layered stories gave me a lot of pleasure and kept me captivated from beginning to end. I am looking forward to meet you in your next book again.

I feel as though I stumbled upon The Lake House in the same way that Sadie stumbled upon Loeanneth. I had never read one of your books before, but I was entranced from the very first chapter. I escaped to it as often as possible and lost myself in it! Last night I tiptoed downstairs so my poor husband could turn off the light and go to bed, and I read the last chapters by lamplight, with tears streaming down my face! Oh how I loved Eleanor! As a mom of four little girls, I felt as though I WAS her, and her strength and sacrifice haunts me still. Next up, The Secret Keeper…I feel immensely lucky to have only read one of your books because now I have all the rest to look forward to!! (P.S. The Enchanted Wood was my favorite book as a little girl too! I’ve already taken a few of my daughters up the magical tree.)

I always look forward to your newest book. I hope it will be out soon. The first of your books I read was Forgotten Garden. I have since read all of them. I find that can get lost in your wonderful stories.

    Dear Kate,
I just finished reading your incredible works called The Lake House and now that I’ve also bought and read your four other books, I find myself going into withdrawal. All of your books were enchanting, mysterious, with unsuspected endings. Thank you so much for sharing your unbelievable talent with the world. I can’t even pick a favourite book so far but leaning toward The Secret Garden. Most people who read a lot I find, can get away with passing over words without losing context. I have to say that after reading for most of my 63 years, I find I NEED to read every word in your books lest I miss out on something very special. Please put your admirers out of our withdrawal misery by publishing another one of your inviting masterpieces again soon.

    Dear Kate,

It is quite the magical moment when a lover of words discovers his/her favorite author. After years of shrugging off the question, “Oh, you’re a writing major? Who’s your favorite author?” with “Honestly, I’ve read so many books, I can’t pick one.” But there comes that time, whether it be in the form of slowly recognizing you admire said author’s style or diction, or you reach the shift in that book that causes you to audibly gasp, or you simply associate said author and her books with sweet times, pleasant memories. Once upon a time, the dear mother of a dear friend suggested I read The Distant Hours; she thought it was right up my alley, and right she was. To my delight, I discovered that you had other novels crammed full with the most colorful characters and robust plots, and I couldn’t seem to get my hands on the next book fast enough after having finished the one before. And then, one fine afternoon on a gals trip in the states, I turned a page in The Secret Keeper and had to stop reading for a moment to let it register. You had become my favorite author, and, to this day, you inspire me with each new work of art you share with the world. Forgive my utterly random post of appreciation. I think it has something to do with being quite possibly the closest I’ll ever be to some of your Australian settings as I study abroad in New Zealand. Hoping you are well.

Hello Kate, I have just finished reading The Forgotten Garden, I absolutely loved it. It had a lovely ending too. I shall be getting your other books now. I have never left a comment before but I just had to, as the story really got to me. You have a special gift, I look forward to reading many more in the future. Thank you. Joan

I check and check and check and I can’t wait until I see that you are coming out with a new book, I’ve read all your books. I even have my sister started on your books as well. You are my favorite author, and I look forward to another family or another character that I can fall in love with

I am in the middle of The Lake House. It is so beautifully written. I am savoring every page, knowing how coming to the end of your books are bittersweet.

I am madly in love with your writing. You are my favorite author and your books are exactly what I love to read. I love how you go back in time and tie characters together and you always surprise me at the end. I’m in Heaven when I’m reading your work. Please keep them coming. You are amazing!

i just finished my second Morton book: The House at Riverton. Still have some gaps I can’t figure out. What was in the box that Hannah left Grace. We are led to believe that Grace was the child of Mr Frederick. Who was Ruth’s father? i.e. the grandson Marcus. Maybe I need to re-read it. Also loved The Lake House. Thanks

I am sure this is a question that many of your readers are asking: when is your sixth book coming out????!!!
    Thanks a lot,

    Hi Kate!
I love your books so much, I was addicted ever since getting “the lake house” as a gift for Christmas 2015, and didn’t stop until I’d read them all!
Any hint at when you’ll be releasing a new book?! I’m desperate :) and

  20. Joy Skies January 14, 2017 at 11:40 am

Hi! My name is Joy Skies! I know this isn’t exactly what the comment section is for but I really wanted a way to contact you! I am an aspiring author (I’m only fifteen) and reading your Q&A I was dying with laughter at all kinds of similar quirks we have. I need to hold a quick phone or email interview with an author for a school project and I would absolutely love to talk to you! You really made my day, it gave me some more confidence in my own chance in the writing world reading that someone like you does some of the same things as I do. I know how busy you are with writing, though, and if you can’t, that’s perfectly fine. Thank you!!

    • Kate Moton January 16, 2017 at 4:48 am

Hi Joy, if you’d like to ask a question or two here in the comments section, I’d be happy to answer for you. I’m so glad to hear that you’re enjoying your writing and that you’ve gained confidence here on my site: I’ve always felt that the key is to write what you love. That way you’re far more likely to bring your readers along with you and help them disappear into the world of your story. Happy writing!

The covers are beautiful. Thank you for your amazing books. I have just finished “The Distant Hours” and was once again transported away into another world and so sad to get to the last page.

    • Kate Moton January 16, 2017 at 4:49 am

I’m glad you like the new covers, Zelda, and even gladder that you enjoyed my books. That you were transported into another world and sad to turn the last page are my absolute favourite things to hear. Thank you!
